Frank Lampard could extend Manchester City loan as New York City consider Etihad training camp

Frank Lampard could prolong his stay at the Etihad if new club New York City FC hold a pre-season training camp in Manchester.

NY City are considering using City's brand-new Etihad Campus to prepare for their debut season in the MLS.

This would allow City to keep Lampard on loan until early February and cover Yaya Toure's absence while the Ivory Coast star is at the Africa Cup of Nations.

City are keen to hang on to Lampard for as long as possible because the former England midfielder has scored four goals in his seven appearances for the champions.

However NY City want Lampard to team up with their squad well ahead of the MLS campaign, which starts in mid-March, and staging a training camp at the Etihad Campus would solve this problem.

City's new facilities are state-of-the-art and and NY City could arrange some friendlies against lower league teams in the North West.

City officials are believed to be considering the idea in conjunction with their new US franchise.
